Slight hesitation when cold - not a re-hash question though.

Question

Have searched and read many posts & posted myself on this before...

I've had a hesitation on a MY95 for a while - changed the OEM coils for the Bosch ones - made a big diference - but came back slightly - changed the Lambda sensor (thinking it shows only when cold) for a new one (not OEM though) - went for a while and came back slightly - changed the spark plugs from Denso Iridium back to NGKs and it went for a good while however it's now back AGAIN.

It's like a gremlin inside the car that sees me changing something and goes soundly back to sleep for a while & then wakes up & thinks "Right he's had enough of thinking he's got it licked! Time to go to work & give him sonething to wreck his head for a while!"

Does anyone think I shouldn't have put in a non-OEM Lambda or should I change the plugs again - taking into account that the NGKs were in her before the Iridiums but without much milage.

Looking to just hear a few thoughts and suggestions from anyone at this stage.

Johny.

This might be completely irrelevant but I get hesitation on my MY96 at about 4,500rpm and 5,500rpm if I've got my foot down in low gears. I posted about it on here in July and I got suggestions of plugs / coilpacks / MAF sensor.

I've got a new (recon) engine now but it still does it, though not nearly as badly. I'm planning on resetting the ECU as I'm hoping it's a timing kind of issue. Will be pleased if it's that simple

Would suggest that if the lambda is a Halfords jobbie, they are not meant to last very long at all.

MAF also sounds like a possibility.

If you are running the BOSH coil packs, is it possible you have a dodgy HT lead, and every time you o anything to your engine you are disturbing them, so that they start working okay for a while?

Question

I thought you either had spark plugs and HT leads OR spark plugs and coilpacks? When I couldn't find any HT leads under my bonnet, I was told that I must have coilpacks instead.

I have the same symptoms (MY 99). Replaced almost all the same stuff (MAF, lambda, plugs) and its still there. In my case it seems to be much better after resetting the ECU (which I did for all the mods), then slowly degrades as the ECU learns again ?
I guess this has something to do with it but do not have that much insight in ECU operation to tell...maybe some of the mappers can tell.

Cheers,
Pim.
