Question

I have a 2002 WRX and, due to not being able to afford a FMIC, want to know if there are worth while benefits from fitting an STi7 TMIC and scoop?
I have other mods planned but need to know if this will help much, also, how much bigger the STi unit is over the WRX??

Thanks

Ross

Question

Thanks Jonny Gav

Will the intercooler be a straight swap, I know I need the hoses but other than that, is there anything else needed?

Cheers

Intercooler itself is a straight swap; though you'll need a longer hose underneath!!!

There will be benefits from this though it depends on the level of increase you are going for.

It also depends on price; if you get it cheap then go for it.

As for the larger scoop it made no difference to my performance whatsoever; though a larger one looks more meanincing (ask any girl....

Out of curiosity, does anyone have oopinions on whether a bigger scoop makes any difference even with a very large TMIC, such as e.g. the hyperflow or APS? Just curious, not that I'd think of upgrading, honest guv!

The larger the I/C the more air you need to keep it cool, it's obvious, so there is some serious reason why Subaru changed to the huge STI8 scoop even if the difference between new age WRX-STI I/Cs isn't remarkable as an aftermarket say MRT, APS etc I/C.
Worth to mention here that if someone uses his car often in traffic stop and go a bigger TMIC works as interheater rather intercooler!

I've been down this exact road with my 2002 WRX and bought an STi8 cooler and STI7 scoop off the 'For Sale' section. I've yet to fit the 'cooler though - had a quick bash last weekend but soon realised I'll have to take the strut brace off first in order to create the space for manoeuvering the new bigger intercooler into position. This weekend maybe..... . The intercooler came with the metal Y-piece and red connector hose as part of the deal, so I may have some blue Samco intercooler hoses from my current setup to sell soon...

the bigger scoop does look the biz though

Hi Fuz --> that's exactly the same strut brace as I have --> did you find you needed to take it off as well, or did you manage to squeeze the bugger in without taking the brace off...... ?

Wink

Make shure when you buy the STI7 intercooler it comes with the red hose, as mentioned earlier, the person selling it won't need it any more.

I bought the strut brase after the intercoler but yes your right u do have to remove it every time you need to get to the intercooleer

as you can see alot bigger
