Ecutek WRX and Fuel Pumps ?

Looking at getting a TEK3 remap in spring for my MY01 WRX.
There's some debate about upgrading the fuel pump at the same time.
I've read it's really necessary on the Sti, but only on the WRX if there are other significant mods.
The other thing I've read is that after a simple Tek3 remap the car should be more efficient, ie. use less fuel.
If the car is going to use less fuel why might it need a more powerful pump?
