How many miles when low fuel warning light comes on?
How far can you go with the low level light (on a UK99).
I read 8 miles somewhere, so had to park up and get taxi to nearest petrol station (in the middle of nowhere). However, taxi driver said I should have about 50miles-worth in the reserve.

This is a "piece of string" question, and the answer varies hugely depending on how hard you're driving. There's probably still eight litres in the tank when the light comes on, but you don't want to get too far into that otherwise you'll be well into fuel starvation related issues.
Obviously depends on how you drive it and at what level it comes on at. I can easily get 30-40 miles before I really start worrying in my de-catted MY99 RB5.
The worst case I've still managed to stick 56 litres in the car, so there was a wee bit to go yet.

Mine comes on with about 10 litres left, i.e. 2 and a bit gallons.
Assuming that you are now aware that it is low on fuel and stop thrashing it
should be able to get at least 25 mpg so about 50 miles before it splutters to a halt!
Personally I've never gone more than a few miles after the light has come on.
