As the temperature is now starting to drop at night I realise that the water in the intercooler spray bottle in the boot is likely to freeze. Has anyone had problems with the hose lines spliting or the bottle being damaged, or do you add something to prevent freezing, which won't damage the engine.
I surpose the only other option is to keep the bottle only half full to allow the water to expland when it freezes - any ideas ?

Mine freezes regularly, even with screenwash in it, I didnt think there was any anti-freezing type off agents in it as its not good 4 the paintwork?, either way i dont think it will spilt it & given the temps its hardly likely that u will need to be using your I/C spray?

yep, simply add winter screen wash to the bottle,it will prevent it from freezing. At least that stuff wont cause any damage to the engine components either as it runs through, but being as the air temperature is dropping so much now, you wont have the tank as full now anyway as not needed. Plus the extra weight amounts to 5 - 7 kg when full, think of the fuel saving if left empty till the weather picks up again.

Jase- I'm wearing the wooly lec slipper myself
Fair comment about the screenwash and I appreciate the water spray won't be used much, just don't fancy having to replace the pipes if they were to split as a result of freezing.....

Simple:
1: Take the ic spray out
2: Fit a series of pipes so that you can cold feed the ic with air from the air con system.
3: This will keep the car mist free and the ic chilled.
ITS A MIRACLE

Whether the AC option would work doesn't worry me - its too much trouble....only want to prevent damage...the hot water bottle option or lagging seem favourite now

we all know that it's not automatic so unless you feel the need to push the button it won't matter ... and why would you be pushing the button in cold/icy conditions.

"Going on" about using the air con thingy, did you realise the system shuts off the air con unit AND the alternator when the ECU notes a dmand for engine throttle,ie an "overtake scenario", which is when you would be switching on the ic spray anyway.
Ok, I know going megga but just a comment to pass th time away [again!].

mwp - appreciate that, I'm aware the spray is unlikely to be needed, but I'm getting a fit fed up with the dash warning flashing at me every time I put my foot down

I've fitted an STi kit to my RB5 that works automatically when 3/4 throttle or more is applied. I intend to remove the fuse for the winter, as water spray isn't needed at the moment

Thanks for the comments - can I just repeat, I am well aware that I will not need the IC spray during the cold weather, and thats the problem - do I drain the system totally and have the dash warning light coming on constantly (or is there a way of disabling that?), leave the system with enough water to stop the light coming on but not enough to damage the system should it freeze, or add something to the system to prevent the water freezing in the first place.
I was only trying to find out what other owners who have had IC sprays on their cars for a few years have done (if anything), to prevent possible damage, but the original question seemed to get lost amongst all the comments about not needing to use it !

That because people like me don't read the questions and tilt off in another direction.
I'd remove the fuse or connector to the pump and leave fluid in there. As said windscreen / headlamp washers recover after a freeze over.

Had a Turbo for 3 years and never suffered from burst washer / cooler pipes

Cheers Phil, thanks....didn't mean to sound stropy, just thought it was a fairly simple genuine question, but didn't seem to be really getting anywhere with an answer especially after a few graphic solutions in one or two of the earlier posts.
