Question

Does anybody know if the heater matrix remained the same design for all classic Imprezas, or did it change when the dash changed in 1998?

Cheers,

Tony.

I think it's different on nearly everything...

UK/JDM cars of the MY93 to MY96 era are different AFAIK, but are interchangable - if you've got all the bits.

Also I think there are differences after the MY97 facelift and after the MY98 dash facelift. I'm not sure if the newer ones fit with the older dash.

Why? - Have you got to the stage of removing AC for a front entry manifold?

I have just removed my air con and on investigation when I was looking to sell it on.. the heater matrix appears to be like said slightly different but pretty much interchangeable.

I believe the early cars had a standard heater matrix and then had stuff added to it to allow air con and the later cars have all the air con bits in it regardless of whether it had air con.

www.gradea-subaru.co.uk seem to know their stuff and would probably be able to supply one too.

If it is cold Tony I presume it now has an air lock in it? and not leaking? top up the water and you'll have heating until it has emptied all it's contents over the foot well floor?

Doh.. ba5tard of a job to change..

I bypassed the matrix, couldn't stand the smell or my lovely prodrive mats getting coolant on them. I think i've sourced a replacement......

Not looking forward to getting the bloddy dash out tho, any tips?

Someone posted some pictures from the job before..

I think it sounds a looks worse than it is..

I think the dash board doesn't have to come fully off just pulled forward but could be wrong..

Good luck

Job done . Took 6 hours from start to finish and 3 of these was under light from a touch . Not that difficult just time consuming. I can't believe that some 'specialists' have told me that it takes 10 hours and even one said it was a two day job..... they must be taking the ****!!! Having done it once im confident the job should take no more than 5 hours.
