Hi I've got a 98 Sti Type R V4 and when I first start it up,drive it then stop the engine idles eratically, down to around 200 back upto about 800/900 then levels out, is this normal? Also when you floor it in 3rd and 4th it sometimes sounds like its over reving, any advice would be appreciated.

The car has a Blitz Nur Spec R exhaust, K&N panel filter and a dump valve fitted.

Cheers
Simon

No Andy clutch isn't slipping, thought the idling could be my MAF sensor, could I be right but as for the over reving I haven't a clue.

Sounds like your idle problem could well be "old faithful"

When you say over reving, how do you mean exactly?

I have a Type R '97, mine does exactley the same as yours. I thought maybe the MAF sensor for the idleing problem but the over revving i only get that when i have been crawling in a traffic jam for a while then boot it on the open road.

"Old Faithful" is indeed the MAF. Mainly because it's the first solution most people suggest! But then again, 9 times out of 10, it is the MAF at fault.

Regarding your over-reving, I haven't got a clue. I understand what you mean though. Similar sound to when you let your old man drive the car, and it takes him 10 minutes to get used to the clutch... only joking Dad! So you don't think it's your clutch? What about your transmission fluid...?

Judge - I have just had a service done and got all the fluids replaced, it was doing it before the service and is still doing it now. Do you know where I can get a MAF sensor?

Thanks for the response.

Sorry to sound thick but is "old faithfull" the MAF sensor? and yes mine only sounds like it over revs when I've been crawling around town and then boot it. By over reving I mean its like the sound you get when driving an automatic and then flooring it, its like a lag between the engine reving and the power getting to the wheels.

Does anyone known were I can get a new MAF sensor?

Cheers

Simon
