Question

This is a bit of an annoyance, the front fogs on my RB5 have both packed in, at the same time.

The fuse is fine and the lamp on the switch comes on saying they're on.

Anyone ever heard of this? I've not bothered replacing the bulbs yet as i doubt both would go at exactly the same time.

I can do a bit of fault finding but it's always best if someone else has been there before, cheers. Dave.

Same thing happened with my cigaret lighter, at a different time though (I know i overloaded it!) fuse is fine.....

this seems to be going the way of an AX i used to have

Cool

They don't work as fog lights.... hold on they don't work at all , they only come on on full beam and are therfor driving lights...

I use them for night time rally action on (closed) back roads

It's certainly not unheard of on here for a bulb to blow and it's twin blow within hours.
I'd defo check one, it taskes all of five minutes.

Same thing happens with my PIAA's sometimes- the switch lights up but no light. The bulbs haven't blown and some time later they seem to work without me doing anything. Dodgy connection somewhere or a fault with the module in the engine bay with "PIAA" written on it is my bet.

Will take a look in there then, cheers nacro

Both bulbs went out together, not even 1/4 second apart.

In that case, suspect the relay.

Is there a fuse ON it or INLINE between it and the battery? If so check it, and replace if necessary.

If the fuse is OK, operate the lights, and get someone to feel if the realy clicks. If it doesn't, replace it..........it'll be a standard on/off relay, Halfrauds etc, about £5.

If it's clicking, use a circuit tester (the ones that look like a screwdriver, with a long wire coming out of the handle are fine for this) to check that:
a) there is power getting to terminal 30, (from battery)
b) there is power coming out of terminal 87 when you select lights on main beam
c) there is power getting to terminal 85 when you select main beam.

Best of luck,

Alcazar

BTW: clip long wire from circuit tester to battery -ve, then touch tip to each wire/terminal you want to test in turn. Ensure it is working first by touching battery +ve with tip.

When making contact with wires/terminals, make sure you are touching bare metal, not insulation, and rub it with the tip to get a good contact.

Sorry if any of this is teaching you to suck eggs:

However i could do with some detailed instructions on Egg sucking

Cheers mate, thats a good start point.

Talking

Happened to my RB5, was pulled connection on back of switch. Cable was connected but one wire pulled back slightly and lights only worked sometimes. I believe caused by mechanic searching for alarm fault.
Also not unheard of for both bulbs to fail at same time.

The fault on mine was caused after SRS airbag work, it was the connections behind the switch I think. The garage fixed mine FOC.
