Question

I have a MY93 Legacy turbo, and I realise that the bonnet scoop is there to channel air over the turbo to cool it. Now I also know that the car is chsrgecooled and the cooler is right under the scoop. If I remove the metal "ducting" under the scoop this will force air over the charge cooler.

Will this increase efficiency or is it a total waste of time, also if I do this will I be reducing the amount of air flow over the turbo.

Any views will be gratefully received

Thanks in anticipation

The bonnet scoops are used in models outside the US that all run intercoolers.

Thanks for the reply, but it does not really answer my question.

I want to know if the channeling beneath the scoop, if removed, will improve the efficiency of the chargecooler as it will have cold air forced over it, and if so will doing this reduce the airflow over the turbo

Thanks

jason the charge cooler looses heat from a small rad at the front. what you see (the black thing with a rad cap on it) is the outer jacket under it is a pump which pumps to the radiator through the pair of pipes on the right side of the engine(pass. side) so all the cooling is done at the front.
so in short no benefit at all and i dont know if lack of cooling air may effect turbo longevity. hope this helps.

Yes it will help slightly, I am trying to find the step by step info on how to mod that. I have come accross this before.

The removal of the channeling looks pretty simple, as it is only 6 screws that hold it in place.

Jason,

You can remove it if you have an air/water intercooler fitted - I found that the bonnet started to lift because the air couldn't escape at high speed.

It does cool the unit but not to any worthwhile extent. I am planning to block my scoop up as the air entering will in theory create a high pressure area in the engine bay. This will apparently restrict the amount of air coming through the front radiator.

We'll see

Thanks

Gavin
