Thanks for the info Paul. I think (hope!) the antifreeze was think because it had evaporated after it came out of the header tank. The stuff in the expansion tank seems to be OK.

Im taking the car to Power Engineering in the morning for them to take a quick look.

Cheers

Unhappy

On the motorway this morning, I had to stop fairly abruptly after a quick stint because of heavy traffic.

As I stopped, a load of steam came out my bonnet scoop and wheel arch smelling strongly of antifreeze. When I got to work I had a look under the bonnet and the header tank (near the turbo) was covered in thick green antifreeze/water.

Strangely, this is the third time this has happened and it always co-incides with receiving a call on my mobile so I wonder if the ECU is affected by the incoming signal in the same way a VDU is???

Any advice gratefully received.

Gary

Thick green antifreeze - does not sound too good! Antifreeze is pretty thin so should not thicken up unless contaminated with oil or such like.
IMHO
Might be that your head gasket is on the way out or a rad prob, one of the causes of the head gasket going is the rad blocking up with silt and a pressure build up/lack of cooling/coolant flow. Could also be a faulty rad cap/rubber seal, maybe a dodgy rad hose.

Suggest that you get your cooling system pressure tested by a garage/radiator specialist, they should be able to tell you what is up. Only about a tenner to do

As far as the phone effecting it, i think it is unlikely to effect your cooling system - this does not rely too heavily on electronics apart from the guage and the temp sender/fan.
more likely to effect brakes (ABS) and engine management stuff.

Suggest you get it checked very soon or you could end up with a big bill!

Hope it is not anything serious.

Edited 'cause i type like a two year old!

Are you serious Luke... the phone actually caused the problem or do you work in 'ONE 2 ONE' sales?

Just got back from PE (top blokes) who diagnosed the problem as a sticking thermostat and an overfull expansion reservoir so its nothing too expensive. I'll try to get it fixed under warranty.

PE didn't want to take any payment for about 1/2 an hours diagnosis so I contributed to their teabag fund anyway.
