Question

I know the best thing to do is tell your insurance company about any changes, however insignificant they may seem, to your car. Has anyone had their insurance increased as a result of having bump-steer removed?

They'd have to be *EXTREMELY* clever to ever find out

The only time they could possibly find out is after an accident and in that case your suspension settings will likely be 'altered' anyway due to accident damage .

I explained to my insurers what the bumpsteer mod and ALK does and they did not increase my premium.

Its a goemetry change that helps dial out understeer. I got mine done at Powerstation at the weekend and it has transformed the handling of my car

I faced a dilemma, to ask my insurer about bumpsteer or to just go and do it. I asked, and they said they wouldn't accept it (this is Admiral).
The reason I thought I'd check it was simply because if I wrapped it round a tree and the mod was revealed by an inspection I'd be stuffed - no insurance. I wasn't expecting them to object though !

Did you speak to their senior technical consultant ?
I explained to the BellDirect technical guy exactly what is involved and what the benefits are.
He was ok with this.

I'll give them another try. I think the more I tried to explain it the less they liked the idea. The car already has the Prodrive handling package, which they were happy with, so maybe its a case of one mod too far (i.e. this would make it a total of two mods ... )

I send emails to explain the mod.
That way they cannot interrupt you and you get to put all your points across

Good luck

Does the bump-steer mod increase uneven tyre wear at all? I've heard that the Prodrive geometry settings can do this but does the bump-steer? (different things I know)

Gazz
Powerstation pioneered this mod and as far as I know they are the only ones that do it.
They're in Cheltenham and I think it costs about £100.

BellDirect and Admiral are in the same building - get the technical guy to walk upstairs and talk to them ! (i found this out when I was transferring insurance from Admiral to BellDirect - cheaper quote, and instead of phaffing about with the NCB certificate they just walked it up the stairs!)
