Question

Has anyone got experience of colour changing an Impreza?

My black car is badly scratched, and I am thinking of changing the colour to Sonic Blue.

Cost/time etc..... any advice will be very much appreciated.

Richard.

Hi Richard,

I've had no experience of respraying the whole car, especially a different colour.

I would imagine it's a BIG job though. They would have to strip the car of all the trim, especially around the parts of the door frames, boot, engine bay, etc..

I had problems with stone chips, scrathes, etc. on the front of the car. I decided to get the whole of the front resprayed (same colour). Turned out great and can't see any problem with slight variations in the colour match. Only cost me £200 all in for the bonnet, front bumper and front wings. They even replaced my RB5 logos.

My advice would be to stick with your original colour. There ain't many black scooby's around and should be much more appealing when you come to resell it. Personally I wouldn't touch a car with a 10ft barge poll if I discovered the original paint colour had been changed.

Just my opinion though,
Stefan

Have to agree with Ozzy, selling the car after you've changed the colour is going to be a nightmare. There may well be traces of the original paintwork somewhere and this will raise all sort of questions ie,?crash repair?cut and shut etc. I've got a black one and it must be one of the rarer colours, unfortunately minor scratches do tend to show up more than on other colours.

I've looked into this as I was thinking of changing the colour on mine . It was going to cost £1000 at least to do it properly and I would be without the car for a week . It would be cheaper and less hassle to change the whole car for one the right colour !

Thanks chaps - I will stay with black and get it 'flat and polished'.

I appreciate your input!
