Check Engine?
#1
Hi all.
The red Check engine light has started to come on intermittently in my 96 STI RA. Seems to happen at random, wether the engine is hot or cold, at any speed or load, and goes out again after a few minutes.
If the check system is anything like the one on my previous BMW, the light wouldn't go out until the fault had been rectified, so the fact that the light is going out seems to suggest a fault in the warning system itself, and not actually in the engine.
Thats what I'm hoping anyway!
Any advice/previous experience much appreciated.
Cheers all!

If you look under the dashboard in drivers footwell should see 2 black and 2 green connectors. Maybe taped away.
Switch off ignition.
Connect 2 black plugs together.
Turn ignition on - don't start car.
Watch for a check engine light(CEL) on the dash board.
If it flashes intermittently (long/short flashes) may be able to work out CEL code.
If you do a search on here for CEL codes, may give you a clue what is wrong.
