brake problem

Happy newyear.
yesterday i had i promblem with the brakes,
I could not press hard enough to make the ABS work today their is no problem.no warnings lights.what could course that?
the impreza is a 99`.

Was it very icey, and was your car sliding.

If so, I was recently told that the ABS gets fooled (un-intelligent ABS!!) into thinking that the wheels are still turning, when they are actually immediatley locking.

This means that you need nearly zero force to lock the wheels so the pedal barely moves.
