COIL PACK OR NOT ?!?!?!

following my previous post, ive come to the conclusion that there may be a dodgey coil pack ?!?!?!?
the car seems to be missing a lot and there is jack **** performance from it, ive cleaned out the wastegate solenoid as the man from the subaru garage instructed me to, but no joy
has any1 else had a problem with a coil pack or packs ?!?!
these are the black packs that go onto the spark plugs, if ur new to this.
and do the newer model coil pack work in my93 sub ???

I had a dodgey coil before.I did not notice this until I changed the plugs and found one of them was covered with soot.At first I thought it was a dodgey plug instead.Reason for changing the plugs was bcos of unstable idle.Changing the plugs nil joy with idle.After a few days I reinspect the new plugs and no.3 was again covered with carbon deposit.
To check the coil pack,leave the engine running and carefully disconnect each ignition lead from the coil.Once disconnect,hold the lead end near the coil connector and make sure the lead is not in contact with the coil.There should be spark jumping across from the coil to the lead with engine still running.If all four leads have sparks jumping across from the coil,then your coil pack is ok.Mine the no.3 has no spark.

got it sorted now m8 
it was a dodgey coil pack but i wasnt sure which 1, i changed the 2 on the left side and it idled smoothly so i took her out 4 a spin and all was as normal
what year car u got ???
