Hiya all

I know this is the second post in this section in a couple of days but i have another problem

When the engine is running the Tappets are pretty loud are they adjustable or will they need replacing? an where abouts are they? i think they are under the covers with 16v written on, on each end of the engine would i be right in sayin this an would i need to drain all the oil out to replace/Adjust them ??

Cheers

yeah the tappets are under those covers, but to get the tappets out you need to remove the ancillary belts, then the cambelt, then all cams before you can pull out the tappets.

if you remove the cams, keep all cam bearing caps in the correct order and orientation as they are machined in situ.

tappest come in various guises, solid/hydraulic and various diameters/designs etc.

however, unless im wrong (somebody put me right if so), i dont think any of them are adjustable. maybe different shims availabe for some, but again not sure.

you may want to try a different oil first.

the tappets wwere noisy as hell on mine, swapped oil type, then after a few hundred miles they are silent

worth a try as subaru are probably about £50 hour labour

p.s. do a search for posts on here re oil type discussions etc.
