Question

I have a 94 WRX and it seems to have lost a bit of power. theres always a air leak type noise under boost and when a guage is fitted for testing its only holding about .7 bar instead of the reccomended .8bar. I cant find anything obvious. Help please.

Could be a leaky dump valve, bleeding precious boost off !

Okee dokee, could be dodgy wastegate actuator, or a leak somewhere else. Only thing i can think of would be take it into someone that can service it, and get them to check it!

Has the hiss under the bonnet started when you felt the boost drop off, or has it always been like it !

Ian,
Both problems seem to be related. Both seem to have started at the same time. Im looking for someone with a select monitor to check th setting of the idle speed control valve, as i believe this is critical

Had the same problem on my 93WRX, it turned out to be the seal under the intercooler, cost 7 quid.

Thumbs up

Alec,
Is this the seal where the feed pipe bolts onto the intercooler with 4 bolts?

On my 93 WRX it is the feeder that connects directly to the base of the intercooler, on mine it had 3 bolts(IIRC), but will could have four on yours. I'm no mechanic but i managed to fix mine without too much grief.

Had a similar noise on my old 94 UK model. Turned out to be a slightly perished pipe connected to one end of the dump valve. Basically the slit only showed up under pressure. Fitted Samco hose and allwas well

Good Luck
