Red face

Can some one with great knowledge clear up something for me?
I was intending to buy a new 02 sensor, as my one on my car is the original and not been changed for 70,000 miles!!!!
So as I am intending to get my car linked or gemmed I thought it would be a good idea to replace this first.
However I have a jap wrx 95, heavily modified, and after making a few enquiries today I have been told that the 02 sensor on my car is titanium and should last the life of the car or to replace it will cost around £300:0
I was thinking, can I get one cheaper as I know a friend who recently got one, brand new, for around £100.Does this mean that this one needs replacing every 30 to 40 thousand miles?
And the titanium one that I have really only needs taking out and cleaning.Or can they not be cleaned for what ever reason?
I can only guess it must be coked up quite badly now? I was hoping maybe I'd be able to clean it with petrol?
If I get the £100 one will it be a straight swap for the jap titanium one I have already?
Any help will be appreciated as I really don't want to be spending £300 on an O2 sensor!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cheers Kev.

Afraid you get what you pay for with these! You can get them from Halfords, but they don't last long...

I put an ad in "Wanted" and luckily got a nearly brand new one. Either that or try a breaker such as Town End Garage / Grade A Subaru.

Question

Don't the ones from Halfords have at least a 12mth warranty??

If they last a year, you could replace them for 10 years before reaching the cost of your titanium jobbie.

Thankyou everyone I'll think about the options?
If I go to halfords in Crawley and buy this I would think they would have to order it? it's not something they would have on the shelf is it?
Also if I did buy one a year (I presume they're about £30) then at least I would know its not coked up and not giving a proper reading!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cheers Kevin

the part no. you want is L300.
It is a standard 3 wire sensor.

i've had mine on for 3 months now, and it's still going ...

and Halfords code is 180398
