Question

I have had my new car 3 days and covered just 170 miles. At times the car seems liable to pull to either side at random and unsettled at the front end on uneven/rough surfaces. It also seems to snake a bit under braking making it feel a bit out of control. At first I thought that this may be because it is brand new, but I am beginning to wonder if there is something wrong. Does anyone out there know if this is typical. The RB5 I test drove had 300 miles on the clock and was fine. Any comments appreciated before I contact the dealer.

Hi there..

Sounds like your suspension geometry..

Go to the dealer...and get them to check it out..

I have about the same experience. Steering feels very woolly and straight line stability is not good at all. I had the geometry checked twice (the second time also setting negative camber to the front wheels) but the feel has not improved. Actually it seems to get worse but unfortunately that usually happens to me when getting used to a car. I have done about 3000 miles now (MY99) on original RE010 and Toyo T1-S.

Pulling to either side at random..well not random, but my MY99 has a tendency to REALLY follow the countours of the road. No other car I have driven exhibits the same behaviour.

I believe this is "tramlining"..something which the scoob is famous for.

Mine does this too, but geometry check threw up nothing untoward and no obvious uneven tyre wear.

Seems to get better with miles (2,000 now). It was really obvious when I picked the car up but it improves the faster you go.

What were you driving before?

My car felt very jittery and understeered like mad for the first few hundred miles. Grip did improve and I put this down to the release agent on the new tyres. I also noticed a big improvement in cornering grip after having my geometry changed to prodrive settings. This did however make the steering more prone to follow the camber of the road.
