I am a 1st time WRX buyer from Singapore.

I an considering between a Ver 5 WRX 4 dr (2000GT rebadged, 220 bhp) and a STI Ver 5 Type R 2 Dr (280bhp). I am working out the affordability aspect but hope you guys can help me with the technicals. Questions:

1. The STI has diff control but no ABS. How will this affect braking on wet? Also, what is the diff ctl for?
2. The STI is a Jap domestic direct import. 180km/h and 280ps restricted. Can I increase the top speed easily? If so, how do I change the speedo?
3. Is 280ps the max output or computer restricted?
4. What is the std boost on the WRX and STI?
5. Can std WRX be modified to give same power as STI? What are the main technical differences?
6. Will the 2 Dr STI have handling issues being 2 Dr?
7. Is the STI a comfortable everyday use car as I can only afford 1 car.

Your comments will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Rebadged? I assume that's the export WRX then equivalent to the UK domestic MY99.

1. I have no ABS. Great feel but then I did lock all four wheels in one instance. Depends how you use the car dude.
Diff: pls read the FAQ.

2. The top speed is already circa 250kmh, maybe you mean removing the speed limiter?
Speedo: buy a new one.

3. Dunno really. I reckon its fast enough as it is.

4. I think its 0.7 bar on the STI and 0.8 bar on the WRX.

5. Yes. In some ways its better because of the smaller turbo - more low end torque.
Differences: Read the FAQ and Steve Eta Tauri's site.

6. Yes. Apparently something to do with the 2 door shell stiffness. 4 door seems to handle better.

7. Yes. Comfy enough for me if I do say so Guv!

A word of advice. I suggest you read and research more on your own before asking questions. You won't get response unless u establish some basic knowledge and ask
'deeper' questions.

Good Luck.
