Just read another thread and this was mentioned. One of the XT owners on subaruforester had this problem and after a number of trips to the dealer they found the PCV valve was sticking open.

Well if its an 03my and under Uk warranty, why not get it to a dealer then? Let them sort it before you loose all oil.

I don't as I had seen a couple of reports on here I thought I'd post it up 'for the greater good'.

Unless the oil is gushing out all over there nice shinny shoes, they wont believe you or 'They all use a little oil'.

In 3000 miles i'd used 4ltr's, but now that problem has settled since last service (10000) (only needed a bit in the last 2000 miles)

PCV = Positive Crankcase Ventilation. Atleast it did 15 years ago when it stuck on my boy racer 2.0 Capri!

I've used about 5 litres in about 10k miles. Thought it was a lot for an MY02.

I'll be watching the boards, as I had it brushed over when I mentioned it at the last service.

Lex told our company car users that they had experienced an increase in engine failures because of low oil on newish cars. Basically because of drivers not checking before the 10/12,000 mile first service.

They quoted a new BMW using 3l oil in 3000 miles This notice has now been withdrawn, presumably at the request of BMW's legal department

I would be upset if my old 205 used that much oil at 150,000miles! I confirm that my 18000 mile WRX has needed no oil between services

What about the BMW M5 using on average 1'ltr ever 1000 miles, now thats some oil consumption,BMW's reply is 'they all do that sir'.
BMW have done extensive tests but cannot find a fault hence the above statement.

Guys,

When i had my *cough* GX *cough*, i never needed any oil. It would loose very little over the 10000miles (from half to about a quarter on the stick)

I'm having to put some oil in again today (gone below min again), p1$$es me off.

when u say its using oil, is that because you can't see any on the dip stick?

Apparently WRX03 models supp oil anything over the 'L' mark. Remember below the 'L' mark there is between 3.5-4L of oil!

Did you empty the oil out a any stage to see how much oil is actually left in your engine?
