Hello,

(Glad to see the forum is back.. I was getting withdrawal symptoms..)

Apart from aesthetics, is there any reason why I should upgrade my standard 16" wheels for 17"ers ?

I'm expecting delivery of my DBM MY99 any day now, and my dealer has quoted me £1300 (ouch !!) for 17" gold alloys.. problem is.. "she who must be obeyed" would like more than a "they look good" before I spend over a grand on some wheels..

PS. It would help if someone could take the spanking new originals off me and reduce the price-to-change (my dealer won't P/X the wheels)

I thought about 17" wheels for my forthcoming DBM, but at 1200-1400 quid, seemed a lot.

I investigated powder coating the 16" in gold, and this will only cost 156 quid all inclusive for the 4 wheels. To me, this seems a better option for now, as if I do decide I want 17", I've not lost out much, plus the powder coating finish is nicer than the 17" Speedlines I'm told.

Worth looking into........

What sort of price are you asking for the 16"-ers with tyres?

Just realised (like the dolt that I am..) that I want to keep my 16"s so that I can slap 'em back on after when I trade up to MY2000

geeza job.

When i bought my scooby late last year i got 4 17" speedline works replica wheels in gold for £550 inc.the first price quoted was £160+vat each! so shop around and haggle.Main dealers have a large margin of profit so be cheeky and exploit it.

Had the 17" golds added to my DBM 99. IMHO they suit the blue perfectlly. They won't do the ride much good, but the smaller, stiffer sidewalls will improve the handling. One word of caution. If you're getting teh 17" fitted, add in the Prodrive suspension mods. Not only will it improve the handling it will also correct the suspension settings for the heavier 17" wheels. If I used the car every day I'd probably stick with 16" but as the car is a weekend toy and I like a car that handles, I'll stick with 17" wheels!
