Uprated Bushes?
#1
Hi folks,
Just a quick note to see if anyone has any experience of fitting uprated (yellow power flex type) bushes. Do they make the front end rock hard or uncomfortable as i`ve been told. My front anti-roll bar bushes are shagged on MY93 WRX. , so i`ve got to change them just wondered if it`s worth up-rating?
Any comments grateful,
Proby.

I am planning on doing this to my UK MY96. I had the same situation as you with my last car (a 7 year old Cav SRi) plus rock hard springs with the Spax suspension I had fitted. I replaced the lower suspoension arm bushes first which had a major effect on the steering - like afterwards you could steer it... then I replaced the springs (for softer ones) and the bushes at the ends of the front AR bar. Even with the softer springs the car actually rolled LESS afterwards.
The downside to these bushes is that they are meant to be *harsher* than standard rubber ones. I didn't find that to be the case at all. If you compare them to worn out rubber ones then they give a silky smooth ride. And with the state of the UKs' roads (assuming you're in the UK) then there is no such thing as ride quality anyway......
So, if you have to replace anyway, go for Powerflex.

Proby,
I recently changed the front bushes on MY93 WRX. Felt like the front end wandered under hard acceleration/braking but since I changed them for powerflex ones the thing handles properly. Note: Its a bit hard to get the old bush surrounds out so I left them in as they're only thin. Suppose all this does is compress the new bushes more and I've had no troubles with them. A wise investment.
