The gearchange can be quite tight and notchy at times, but not as bad as you are making it sound.

I can get mine into 1st at just under 20mph without too much problem, as long as I blip the throttle first.

Might be worthwhile quickly checking the level of oil in the gearbox (see previous thread about two dipsticks).

Hi,
Mines tight as well - dealer tells me the oil used in the gearbox is different to the oil they put in when the oil is changed. I also wondered if it was an effect from the quickshift - throttle blipping certainly seems to help so maybe it's a synchomesh thing.

cheers

Andy

Have now had the car for about 5 days (MY98 - UK standard spec, 10000 miles)and have noticed the gear changes are very tight.

I can only get it in 1st easily if the car is at a complete standstill and the clutch is all the way down.

2nd is fine most of the time.

3rd is hard to get into unless the clutch is all the way down, it feels 'notchy' otherwise.

Does all this sound right?

Regards
James

I have a MY98 with 7000 miles.

I still have problems shifting into 1st unless I double de-clutch, and match revs precisely. It is almost as if 1st doesn't have any syncromesh at all!. I also used to have difficulties shifting from 3rd to 2nd or 2nd to third but this is much easier now that I have put some miles on the car.

I had a similar problem with MY98 from new.
Dealer changed oil to different viscosity which made some improvement. However gear change remained very notchy and clashy unlike my MY99 which is very smooth and feels very different.
