Does anyone know the easiest way to remove the small grilles below the front indicators on a MY99?

 

Yup,
Remove the Indicator (one Screw) and stick your fingers into the hole. If you feel around the back of the grille you should find a little raised section that hooks the grille into the bumper. Just apply a bit of pressure to this and pop the grille out frontwards.

'Orrible, aren't they. I've painted mine satin black and put them back in.

Tony - what did the bumper look like once you had removed the grille ?

Did you have to put the black grille back on or would it have looked ok without it ?

 

I used a universal primer having roughed up the orange paint first - it deserves it don't you think!, and then a couple of coats of Satin Black I had kicking around from somewhere.

The empty spaces actually look a bit stupid as, given certain light conditions you can see that there is not a duct to cool the brakes but only a void with the wheel-arch liner behind it, and, as I recall the wiring for the indicator dangles around there.

See what you think, it's easy enough to put the damn things back, you could get some more, paint them different colours and treat them like designer phone covers - just not Orange!
