No, there's no warning light on the rear diff oil level. There's no low level warning on the front diff/gearbox either. The only way to check is via the dipstick at the front or the level plug on the back.
Is it okay to drive? Impossible question to answer seeing as we don't know how much is leaking! In situations like this it's much better to be safe than sorry, and that means putting the car on a flat surface, removing the top plug and filling til oil starts to flow back out. Use a brand-name 75w/90 gear oil to top up.
While you're under there, clean all the leaking oil and dirt off the diff case with brake cleaner and a paintbrush, so if it continues to leak, you'll have no problems identifying the source. The output seals can be changed fairly easily without removing the diff, while anything else really needs to be fixed with the diff off the car.
