Can anybody tell me how to disable the rear wheels, to allow the car to be set up on a normal rolling road. I know that with Calibra 4x4's it was a simple removal of a fuse.

G'day Andrew,
I think you'll find that the Calibra is a front driver most of the time until the front wheels start to lose traction so that might explain why it was so easy.

Best regards

As far as i know the 4WD system on the Scoobs will not allow them to be disconnected without taking a diff off. If memory serves, the Vauxhall 4wd system was a 2wd that connected the rears when it felt it was necessary, the Subaru system is permanent. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies, but does anybody know what to remove/disable on the subaru to make it front wheel drive and how long does it take.

The reason for asking is to get the car setup with a piggy back ecu chip, called UNICHIP. This chip is connected to all of the various engine sensors, and modifies these readings before passing the info to the ecu. The car needs to be setup on a rolling road, and my favourite garage doesn't have a 4x4 setup. (They appear reluctant to buy one just for me!!)

thanks

You would have to remove the centre diff at least, and i certainly wouldnt recommend that course of action !! you really need a 4WD rolling road, are there any round you that might allow your garage to do the work there ?????

Haven't looked under an Impreza but if it's like the Legacy or IRS Datsuns, just drop the rear halfshafts on the diffy end. It is a pretty quick job.
