Do you mean a UK classic and a Jap import classic (WRX) or a UK classic and a Bugeye (WRX)?

Gets confusing.
Pre 2001 the classic shape was called the Impreza Turbo 2000 in the UK.
The exact same car was called the WRX in Australia/New Zealand. (In most of Europe the same car was called the GT)
In Japan there was a variant of this car with different spec. and higher horsepower also called the WRX.

As this point Subaru was probably even confusing itself so called all of the new shape turbo charged cars WRX from 2001 onwards but that is not to say they are all the same....

Question

So are all classic UK cars called the UK2000? Why did Subaru not call it the WRX? I just wanted to find out what differences there are (not jap models) when people ask which Impreza you drive and they hear UK2000, they say oh, not a wrx or Sti, must be the decaf latte version!

WRX has a back wiper, UK does not. WRX has big WRX sticker on the boot lid, UK has a smaller sticker saying impreza 2000 awd turbo or whatever it is (its that small!). WRx does not have a fog lamp as standard and so the importer will have possibly added an aftermarket one (an ugly one in the bumper or below it) on or put a red bulb into one of the reverse lights and wired a fog lamp up that way. UK has a fog light integrated into the r/o/s lamp cluster. The brake lights on the rear clusters would appear 'wider' when used on a wrx as there is no fog lamp.

There's a few UK specs on here that are more like double espresso than decaff latte!

No, none of them were called that. The UK classic turbos were called the Turbo 2000 AWD.

Why did Subaru not call it the WRX?
Dunno, you'd have to ask Subaru. To make things even more confusing, the mainland European market equivalent of our Turbo 2000 AWD was called the GT AWD.

I just wanted to find out what differences there are (not jap models) when people ask which Impreza you drive and they hear UK2000, they say oh, not a wrx or Sti, must be the decaf latte version!
Does it really matter? If clueless Joe doesn't know anything about Imprezas, you can tell him whatever you like. As for the UK car being a "lightweight", in standard form, on UK roads, they're arguably better cars than a standard WRX of the same model year due to more UK-specific gearing and suspension settings.

It's a reasonable comment John. An MY99 UK car with probably 220bhp on 97 octane, vs a '99 WRX (just a standard WRX mind, not an STi5) in factory trim. If I had the choice of one or the other as daily transport, all things considered I'd pick the UK car.

Cool

Hi All, see there's different spec between the 2000 and the new age WRX
We notice it her in Kuwait hope it will help and answer some Questions.
IMPREZA GT that what's the dealer use to seal, after 2001 WRX new shape some of the CAR SHOPS broth it from UK and the dummy dealer bort UK spec too.
the WRX GENERAL UK and the dealer
in its first summer 80% of them had engine problems the piston will melts or break in half due to the heat from the turbo and weather in next summer 20% have the same problem and 60% of the 2002 i don't know if you had the same engine problems in UK too, because the pistons are made for cooled weather not forged that can handle extra heat
wrx slow, heavy, looks bad, but the handling good, cant beat the GT , the standard GT can win 1/4m race with V8 engine, but wrx has to do some tuning like exhaust system, downpip, air filter to do some damage
the only problems was with the GT
Is GEAR BOX can easy brakes like my00 its the 5th time
finally due to GT gear problems and WRX engine problems the dealer stop sealing impreza turbo funny isn't
mmmmmm

ive got the haynes book on the subaru impreza and it says that the uk dealers called them (impreza2000turbo awd) to define them from import's so people with new imports could not take them under warrenty for any fault's thay had on there car's.. i called my local subaru dealer for a water spray switch and the first thing thay said was is it an import if so thay wont sell the switch to me......

Mines a 95 WRX running 265bhp, from what I can see its totally standard except for the Blitz NUR Spec cat back. I'm gonna take it to ScoobyClinic for a power run soon hopefully to see how much of that is actually true.

after coming from a uk turbo to a 99wrx i can honestly say the difference in power is unbelievable.

not only power but gearing and handling too... i think my wrx handles better and the gearing is alot easier to use for a powerful car... my opinion of course

sorry to hijack ya thread a little, but does anyone know off the top of there head what turbo a 99wrx has and what power its good for?
