Cutting Out Part 2

I have a 98S (98 Mdl) Turbo 2000 with a Ramair filter and Scoobysport exhaust. Once properly warmed up, (after 15 mins) it cuts out violently with medium to hard throttle in any gear.
The dealer's fix is to change the lambda sensor but this only cures it for 1,500 miles. I have just broken the third. I have seen the FAQ about cleaning the wastegate solenoid, and have tried this several times and it does not seem to work.
Why does fitting a new lambda sensor fix it? - Albeit temporarily.
