Just fishing for possible solutions here.
I know it's cold in Sweden but until the car warms up a little trying to change gear between 1st and 2nd is damn near impossible. It gets better between the other gears then the same again from 3rd to 2nd and back into 1st.
Has anyone else experienced this problem and can anyone suggest a cure. I've thought about slick 50 gearbox treatment or can I put different oil in ? Any help on this would be appreciated.

Might be the viscosity of the oil,try another. As for Slick 50 don't touch it with a long pole!.Use your browser to search for slick50 website. It seems that as well as sticking to vital metal to metal surfaces it also clogs up the oilways and i don't need to tell you the importance of that.

Fully synthetic oil should improve the situation - there was something on here or IWOC before Chrimble

Nigel,

Had the same problem myself with my MY98.
My work takes me to Switzerland for extended periods, and it was here that the problem rose it's head. The problem did seem to go away quite quickly when on the move, hence the temperature was an obvious thought.
Never did sort the problem out as it was one of those short term, frustrating ones that just seemed to disappear.
Other guys with ranging motors also mentioned transmission tightness.
Over here now with new motor (M3 Evo) and all seems well, and it's bloody cold....
Vorsprung Durk Technic....as they say over the border (translated...Quality and heritage )

Jamey, as I'm always glad to help out:-

The popular AUDI advertising slogan "Vorsprung durk technic" actually translates as "progress through technology"
I know this as I used to work for Audi at the Neckarsulm plant in W Germany.

Jamie - Without wishing to be rude buddy, how does "quality and heritage" mean the same as "progress through technology"? Am I missing something here ?
