I would like to change the steering wheel on my MY97 Turbo. The standard steering wheel is bloody awful. Ideally I would like to replace the wheel with a Momo item but the airbag issue makes this a tricky one. Has anyone replaced an airbag steering wheel with a non-airbag one, if so what are the complications - if any? Also can I fit one of the new style airbag Momo wheels from the MY98 or MY99 models instead? If so does anyone now how much these items are - expensive probably?

The Steering wheel from the MY 98 and 99 cars wont' fit the 97 cars. Apparently it has been tried several times.

You could fit a non-airbag wheel to your car, and several owners have already done so. It would be worthwhile notifying your insurance about it. Subaru dealer's probably wouldn't be happy to carry out the work in case there were any warranty/legal implications.

It is possible to get the existing wheel re-trimmed in leather for about 200 pounds (it used to be a Prodrive option from the Subaru dealers)
