I've just gotten a MY97 and 1/2 Metallic Green 'R' impreza turbo... its great.
I haven't really taken the time to understand the dash and various lights as yet but (Ok... so I watch the rev counter) I have noticed one thing. When I first put the key in the ignition (aux power) the 'Check Engine' light goes on. Should I only worry about this when the car is running ??? It starts... and drives fine (in fact better than fine). Engine sounds spot on.... no horrible noises from turbo unit... I got the car from a dealer so I can't imagine there is a problem.
Any info from a more long-term driver would be nice... I just need to know I'm not doing any halm by driving it.
Cheers
Ian

The "check engine" light comes on when you first put the key in the ignition simply so that you know the "check engine" circuit is working (ie bulb not blown or whatever).
You can therefore safely ignore it and gleefully hammer the living daylights out of your car.
