Question

The other night when accelerating hard from 30 mph in third about 3-4000 RPM there was a complete loss of power, so severe that my neck hurt, because of the violence i have no idea if i removed my foot from the accelerator but i would guess i did. The car continued to run with no ill effects, I tried again and the same happened but could i not get it to do it any more on the journey home, since then the car appears fine.I would appreciate if anyone has any ideas.

I think you may have just met fuel-cut The car goes past it's boost target far enough that the ECU cuts fuel to protect itself - as power is cut completely at a point that engine is (past) full-boost, it feels like you're thrown forwards violently.

If it does it again (typically easier to find at WOT if you floor it at around 3,500rpm in a higher gear...) you may want to find out what's causing it, but it shouldn't really happen again anyway.

It usually happens when the oil has been overfilled, it gets into the boost solenoid and then it can't control the boost aswell as it should and because of the cold weather you will be getting high boost spikes. Has it been for a service recently if so it maybe they overfilled the oil, Is the boost solenoid very loud ? maybe be worth cleaning with some degreaser. Loads of info do a search on fuel or boost cut.
