Check engine light on the legacy has come on again today and it's now staying on longer than before.

The car went in to Beechdale last wednesday and they said that they had fixed the problem by refixing the MAFF sensor and resetting it,this is because the car has been fitted with a new downpipe from the outlet manifold(before we brought it), but it seems that they actually did'nt do much, may be cleaned the sensor.

When this light does come on the car loses power as if the ECU has gone into 'limp' mode, it is now getting very annoying, this is the first scoob my dad has had, he's had it a month , and he's not an happy bunny!!!!

We are going to clean all the connections to sensors etc tom, hoping that this may prove to be a cure to the problem, we have already checked the oil, water levels and they are fine.

The light comes on after around 15mins of driving, could the car be getting too hot, the temp gauge stays at normal level but is there a sensor that sensors the engine temp and sends it back to the ECU ?, and could this have gone on the blink?

We had to cancel a family trip to the coast this weekend because of this problem, the car is going back to beechdale on monday to find the fault and hopfully fix it,this time, and it had better be free.

A slightly annoyed

PS I am buying an extended warranty on my impreza, because of this fault with the Leggy!!!!

Have you tried checking ECU fault codes for yourself when the CEL comes on? Its pretty easy to do and is the same procedure for legacy's
Have a look here saxonfields

Done the checks and the ECU was throwing up error code 22(knocksensor if i'm correct), did the ECU reset and all seems well again. Gave the car 20 Min run up and down the A52 and the check engine light did'nt come on at all, in power mode as well as normal drive selection, we think we have cracked it.

Will keep a close eye on it , if it does come on again i will check the knock sensor for a possible fault, if it's the same error code that is.

Thanks for help given ,it proved very useful and saved my Dad some money.

Light came on again today, checked for error codes, code 22 knock sensor again going to replace sensor, anyone no how much?. I have checked connections to the sensor they seem fine.

There no audable knock from the engine, it is ver quiet, so it must be the sensor that has gone on the blink.
