I think the early RA engines were supposed to have different head castings with better coolant pathways. The combustion chamber may well also be a different shape.

A 99 RA engine wont work, its a phase 2 engine rather than a Phase 1 engine (they changed them for the MY99&gt

Cool

Won't work in what particular way? I don't think anyone was suggesting swapping an engine, the chap just wanted to know a bit more about a specific engine.

does the engine have a different crankshaft??
No. Up to MY96 all turbo engines have the 12200AA051 crankshaft. For MY97-98 it’s 12200AA150. MY99-00 have 12200AA210.

1.8 scoob conrods(forged)???
No.

solid lifters ????
Early WRX engines (also the STI ones) have hydraulic lash adjusters, up to MY94. MY95 and after had solid tappets.

a closed deck block?????
11008AA100 is closed deck short block and was used until 08/96.
After that open deck blocks were used, later on semi-closed deck.

a different ecu ?????
Yes.

different differentials ?????
No, believe not.

what parts on it are Aluminium ?????
Later versions also had aluminium lower wishbones up front.

what other difference are there on it(it's not an STI by the way)
Equipment differences (no spoilers, no electric windows etc) for weight saving.
