Thoughts on mileage?
I bought my MY99 turbo in May 2002 and since then i've put about 18,000 miles on it and its now on 45k, i've seen the prices drop but i'm in this for the long term so thats not a problem for me (as in i'm keeping this for as long as I can and concentrating on house stuff, like getting one).
Anyway, i'm going to start hitting 100k in 3 years time, now i'm wondering if its going to need a lot of work doing as the mileage creeps up, I wont be in a position to keep fixing it if i'm paying mortgage and so on.
Basically if it is going to be the kind of car to keep costing money when the mileage goes up then perhaps I better sell now otherwise it'll be a liability in the future and worth nothing to boot.
Any thoughts. (i've found the firts step is to stop modding it)

Your major concern is the bottom end going.
Keep it well serviced and regularly make sure it is running sweet with tek2 (no det)and good fuel is used.I would leave the mods as they are except thing to make it run more efficent i.e. cooling the air intake.
Other than the usual wear and tear it should last past 100k
My 96 uk has clocked up 107k driven daily, serviced, taken on track, lightly modded at the mo full exhaust & panel filter(dynoed at 230 bhp at around 98k miles, half exh system then)
But anyway it is still going strong.
Was ex company car hence the mileage.Have heard of people with alot higher mileage on theres than mine.
No what you mean about the mortgage and car thing, Will take the plunge before long myself and was weighing up wether to keep it or sell it but I love it and can't sell it, besides I would not get much for it so might aswell keep it.

Thanks for the opinion.
I've been long concerned about intake temps. But what can you do without a FMIC. I was stuck on the M25 today in the new J27 road works and wondering if i'm doing myself any favours idling with windows up and air con on in that weather, cant do the car any good, sure it was idle but must have been very hot!

Have an MY96 with 129,000miles..
other than servicing I have had to, let me see now..
change the clutch at 122k,
change the front crank seal at 100k (make sure you do it at second cambelt change, I didn't and 10k later I had to change the seal),
coils at 120k I think,
currently have an oil leak from one of the crank case seals which I should get around to changing later this week possibly.
Car been decatted for about 10kmiles and 6months and now running 1bar..
I have had it since 76k Feb 2001....
As to sitting in traffic, should be fine on tick over but just don't do a full bore start.. pull away normalish and let some air flow through intercooler before you get on boost.. I usually stay off boost until I have cruised for a couple of miles.
If anything I have found the Scoob more reliable than anything else I have owned.

I am driving a '96 WRX with now 135,000 km in very hot Bangkok, I am the 2nd owner but know that the first one drove a lot in the city i.e. all day traffic jams with 30 degrees celcius plus all year round and bad roads aswell.
When I bought the car changed all fluids and had to change a leaky power steering pump and rack otherwise only problem I had sofar was some aircon part.
I have been driving it now for a year and still going strong so would not worry too much.

edited as I noticed the final bill wasn't posted for the new short block, discs/pads all round, and 90k service
£3,567.85 strange how that number just sticks in my head

I believe I have seen £1500 for a recon fitted...
Secondhand engines for £900...
gear boxes for £500...
If you want to be shafted then visit your local dealer..
