Question

What are your thoughts on needing ABS generally.

Would it put you off buying this kind of car without ABS?

Can ABS be fitted retrospectively? Cost?

Cheers

personally its more of a pain in the *** to me, it wouldnt put me off buying a type R, AFAIK the variable diff is the reason why you cant fit ABS, something to do with leaping about in the air on forest stages

you don't need it if you are a fairly decent driver. I have been in a few sutuations where you've over estimated the level of grip on the road and locked up, but you just need to react to this.

Its part of the fun of having a true rally car on the road. If I was offered the chance to have ABS on I would probably opt against it.....esspecially if that meant losing my diff control

I never liked ABS, there are times such as on very slippery surfaces(gravel etc) where it is a real disadvantage.

Answering your questions in order:

1) It's a handy safety feature for most of the people, most of the time. Personally, in the dry, I'd rather not have it. In the wet, when pressing on, I'd still rather not have it, although it's a closer run thing. Would I rather my mum and dad's car had it? Definitely.

Having driven Imprezas both with and without it, the non-ABS cars have much better pedal feel, which helps you detect and avoid lock anyway.

2) No, it's not as if you have any choice with a DCCD equipped car.

3) As mentioned, not unless you take the DCCD out, and I know what I'd rather have.

Cool

DCCD doesn't seem to upset ABS too much, at least with the diff lock wound right back anyway.
