do i need 1? are they expensive? i thought the ecu took care of that!

its for when you mod the car so if you have fitted it detects det and hopefully save you the price of a rebuild

Hell yeah m8,

Don`t even think about removing it IMHO.
U r right BTW the ecu takes care of advance / fuelling etc but it`s based on the signals it receives from the sensors, of which the knock sensor is one. Otherwise the engine can keep advancing the timing thinking everything is tickity boo when in actual fact the engine can be knocking its head off and the ecu wouldn`t know because the sensor has been disconnected. Don`t do it
