everything has been going like a charm, all well and good.
Now just recently I have noticed that there appears to be a slight *notch* about 1cm down the clutches travel, it feels a tiny bit *looser* for this bit and then when past this bit it feels as tight as a drum.
Obviously these are all very subjective descriptions and without somebody seeing the darned thing its impossible to tell for sure, but has anyone had similar?
I recall a thread in the past (I think) that was mentioning about a spring not engaging or something? could this be the same?
Like I said, everything else is tickety-boo except the first 10mm (or 1/2 inch for the oldies ) of the clutches travel on the pedal.
obviously now my attention is drawn to this and as I have only had the car a month I cant say whether it was this way upon purchase or not, but its starting to bug me, with carefull pedal action I can take up this 10mm of *slack* in the pedal and catch the point that it feels all tight again and there does feel to be a sort of *notch* or something at that point,
your advice please as its going in for the 67.5k service any day and I want to try and be ready when they tell me somethings wrong with it and it`ll be £1000 to put right
(not that they will of course )
Andy......

Evening:
1. Could be the spring needs adjustment in the cabin
2. Could be the spring in the egine bay has stretched and needs replacing
3. Could be the circlip in the clutch has disengaged (clutchout)
4. Could be the phenomenon that all Subaru owners get used to "clutch judder"
5. Best to get it cheked out at your next service

My legacy does the same and it seems like the clutch pedal has a spring to help it return and that is moving around must be a reason for it though.
you should have some freeplay anyway i think.

Mine was the same, You need to setup the pedal assy like this:
There is a bolt at the top of the pedal assembly to adjust the pedal height, it should be 145mm from the pedal rubber to the floor, you will need two 14mm spanners.
Behind the pedal is a rod that joins the pedal assy to the master cylinder, undo the locknut on it 12mm spanner and turn the rod with the flats on it with a 6mm spanner to achieve 10-15mm freeplay at the pedal rubber.
Then bleed the clutch system and all will be well.

I'm not happy with the biting point (I want it higher up/less travel before disengage) so I asked our friendly subaru dealer (useless ****ers) to do this and they said "It's hydraulic and we can't adjust it". Despite knowing they were wrong, I couldn't persuade them to do exactly those adjustments you described. I'd had a look at the pedal assembly and worked out for myself that it ought to be possible to do that....
Anyway, I'm going to do it myself (thanks alot for the post) - do you need to bleed the clutch system? Simple job?

You can adjust the bite point to where you want it, but you must set it up to have the free play or the clutch will wear out quickly.
No you don't have to bleed it, but if you wanted to it isn't difficult.
I will find the instructions and add them to this thread.
My clutch felt like it was grating when depressed as there was air in the system, 10 mins to bleed and it felt like new.

Bleeding:
Use Dot 5 and a one man bleed pipe (oneway valve)you can get this in Halfords about £3 saves getting her indoors involved.
There are two bleed nipples first on clutch damper block behind drivers side suspension (follow pipe from master cylinder) and one on the slave cylinder (remove intercooler)
Fill reservoir with dot 5, attach bleed pipe to first nipple and loosen half a turn then pump the pedal until clean fluid comes through the pipe without air bubbles then tighten nipple top up reservoir again and repeat with second nipple.
Job done.

Thanks alot it's brilliant to hear some common sense, I've been talking to Subaru main dealers for too long...
I'll take care to ensure there's some free play, I don't want to knacker the release bearing as well. The clutch itself feels smooth enough, so I don't think I'll bleed the system yet.
Excellent, that's been nagging at me for ages, I'm feeling good about my scooby again so I think it's time to bin the main dealers and go to Scoobysport for a few goodies
Thanks again
