Question

I would like to know if all cars have the ability to run IC water spray. As in, is it automatically built into the ecu and is a plug and play thing or is it only certain ecu's that have it built in?
A friend is looking to put it on to a MY00 STi V6, and if its possible I would like to put it onto my MY93 WRX.
Any help appreciated.

My sti7 has it as a standard feature. As far as i can gather it has nothing to do with the ECU and is a button which i press that sprays a mist of water over the intercooler. The water bottle is in the boot.

Unless you mean water injection?

Thumbs up

Yep water sprays can be fitted to any car running a turbo.

Its mainly aimed at turbo cars that are running higher than normal boost levels (like mine :P ). Cars running higher boost can experience detonation or 'pinking' when your floor the gas. Water injection can cure this and keeps the cylinders @ an ideal combustion temperature, meaning more power and safer, smoother running of ya motor

My mates EVO 8 has one fitted as standard and he leaves it on Automatic so when the engine and turbo get hot, it dumps water accross the intercooler giving him a much smoother ride (or so he says). I did notice that when we went on the track @ Donnington last year (in his 7) he emptied the entire water bottle in just 1 lap on automatic setting

Kits range from about £370 (inc V.A.T, not inc Fitting) and i've heard that 'Aquamist' are the best after market manufaturers.

In answer to your original question, yeah stick one on !!!!!!!!

Mark,

I take it you got rid of the seats in the end! Anyway, intercooler water spray kits are available from the likes of Graham Goode. They can supply all the factory switches for it etc. However, it is possible to get hold of the sti jets from Subaru and then fashion your own using a washer pump and a suitable bottle. I am getting a tank made to go in the boot by a friend with a tig welder as we speak! Its then just a simple job of fitting either a manual switch or a boost pressure actuated one that starts the pump. You can also put non-return valves into the hoses so there is always water sitting in the hoses. This is a much cheaper option!
