I have recently bought an sti4 1998, and am not entirely convinced about the accuracy of the speedo at speeds higher than 30mph.

I think it is over registering, as it doesn't feel as if I am doing the indicated speeds, unless it's just so much faster than my previous WRX, and there seems to be more cars going past me on the motorway than there used to be even though I am not hanging about !

70mph on the speedo is almost exactly 3000rpm, which doesn't seem unreasonable, but it just feels like I'm going slower.

Does anyone have any info on the speed it should be going per 1000 rpm in 5th gear or have the same car to make a comparison ? My car is standard, 16" wheels 205/50/16 tyres. I tried to compare it against my WRX before I sold it but the gearing seems higher and 70mph was only 2500rpm.

Thanks

Ken

Any excuse for a blast up the private bypass near my house. I will go later and report my findings.

Borrow a friend's GPS unit. That will show you actual speed to make a comparison with.

Thanks,

At 21.8mph per 1000rpm it is over registering by about 7mph at 3000rpm.

The GPS idea sounds like it could give a result, a mate of mine has one, have arranged to check it out on Friday.

Thanks again

Ken
