Question

To all those ECU and engine experts out there, can I pose a few questions on behalf of a friend. He is buying a new Forester XT Turbo and was wondering if the ECU (AE801) from an MY99 Impreza Turbo would be compatible both in connection terms and in mapping terms with the new Forester, and whether it would have a beneficial effect in terms of power and torque output. He was also interested in the mechanical similarities and differences between the old Impreza Turbo and the new Forester Turbo, both UK cars.

It's a lot to ask I know, but you guys and gals are always so good at coming up with advice and / or references that it seemed worth a try.

Thanks in advance.

They are totally different fish. If your friend was buying an old shaped Forester then there far more sharing of items.
If he's after more power then why not go for a JDM Forester instead?
Hopefully the 2.5 turbo version will be out one day in Japan which will allow some serious rework to copy the 2.5 STi Impreza in the States.

Hi Steve,
I'm ready when I have fitted a gauge and hoses. Probably be ready in 2 - 3 weeks.
