Waggy,
Sounds like someones been playing with yours then.
It looks like they have put the Map from a Z4 ECU into your U8. As mentioned above the Z4 is alot better and has more boost and better fuel/timing maps.
Is that the ECU you ran at the RR I arranged last year ? as it only gave 250BHP if I remember rightly.
Does the boost match that descibed above for a Z4.
Connect a wire or join the brown resistor at position J1 and it will run the standard map (the resistor may of been removed, or just cut). Do not touch the one labelled L1.
What Chips are fitted or is it a single chip in a socket, as I may be able to do a quick 15.5psi mod for ya, if you pop it down to me.

Scott,
I've mentioned my W4 ECU from a Forester on another thread before, which sounds like the old WRX wagon U8 performance (wavers around 11.7 - 11.9) then drops away after 5000 rpm. Not surprising as both cars are rated as 240 PS in Japan.
However, the tell tale peak boost I get (SPA guage) has been 17.5 psi (not known what duration for) in recent days with colder air.
I don't get any obvious signs of fuel cut off and the car has only basic exhaust and filter work (no decat).
Does the ECU average out the peak psi over a "relatively" long period before cutting fuel and that the SPA gauge is rather sensitive at sampling the instantaneous psi?

Thanks Scott,
SPA gauges have an adjustable averaging period to calculate readings, but they don't say the actual duration in the manual. Guess I'll have to play around with the settings to see what pressure I get over higher sampling intervals.

U8 is the same. There are differences elsewhere in the map, but boost, fuel and ignition is the same as a 2C.
I think the early STi's mainly had mechanical and cosmetic improvements, rather than different boost levels.
Boost Targets & Fuel-Cut Limits
WRX/STi Saloon ECU's 2C, U8, W6, W9 - As above, 11.47psi held to redline. Fuel-cut 14.57psi
WRX (1995/96) ECU Z4 - 12.71psi, dropping to 11.78psi @ 6600rpm. Fuel-cut 15.65psi.
UK/Aus/Euro ECU's V7, 7D and 6D - 11.47psi, dropping to 9.47psi at 6600rpm. With Fuel-cut @ 14.87psi
UK Prodive ECU - 13.33psi (peaks to 13.64 @ 5600rpm, drops to 12.71psi @ 6600rpm). Fuel-Cut 15.65psi.
STi RA (1996) ECU 7K - 13.17psi (peaks to 13.64psi @ 5800rpm). Fuel-Cut 15.96psi.
WRX Wagon ECU V9 - 10.55psi dropping to 6.84psi (starts to drop @ 5000rpm). Fuel-Cut 13.79psi
Z4 and UK Prodrive map are near identicle, with the Prodrive Map running slightly more boost.
IMHO the Z4 ECU is the best stock WRX ECU you can get, as it has much tidier fuel and igntion maps. Comparing it to the earlier ECU's I'm suprised the earlier cars run at all.....
A Z4 ECU will also run fine in a UK and give near UK PPP performance.

If you remember i recently brought an ecu with phase 1 power engineering map off scooby net.Having read this thread i thought i would take a look at my ecu.Which i found to be as i described to you.I cant remember exactly what or how many chips were in place.I will go and take a look.At present i have a dawes device and am running 16psi.Better still i will take a photo of it and perhaps you may be able to throw some light on what i actually have.
Thanks Scott
Forgot to say that the RR you arranged i had my standard MY96WRX ecu and standard exhaust etc,and made 262bhp.
