Question

I have a MY98 impreza that's due for a tune-up. How hard is it to get at the plugs and filters? I remember what a pain it was trying to change belts on my old 87 GL. Barely any room to get your hands or tools into the engine compartment. Are the newer cars any easier to work on?

Thanks!

Filters (oil and air) REALLY easy - spark plugs, well, read for yourself:

Good, doesn't sound too awful. Has anyone tried changing the fuel filter? It comes with the tune-up kit, but I've never done one of those.

Thanks for the info!

Hi Techtigger,
The plugs are tricky to get at, u most likely do not need to change fuel filter check on the www.sidc.co.uk faq for the service details, subaru specify every 30,000 miles or something like that on turbo cars.

WRT the fuel filter, when you are ready to do it, disconnect the fuel pump and let the car idle 'til it dies. Or if you don't want to do that disconnect the fuel pump and drain the supply and return hoses, otherwise when you disconnect the fuel filter you'll have fuel everywhere!

Cheers
