This is my Problem and Cure sheet.

Understeer on entry to a bend - Increase the 'rebound rate' of rear shocks. Decrease the 'bump rate' of front shocks. Increase the rear brake bias or just brake earlier!

Oversteer on entry to a bend - Decrease the 'rebound rate' of rear shocks. Increase the 'bump rate' of front shocks. Decrease the rear brake bias, or brake later!

Mid-bend Understeer (constant 'wash-out') - Stiffen rear spring and/or anti-roll bar. Soften the front springs and/or anti-roll bar.

Mid-bend Oversteer (constant 'tightening' without driver input) - Stiffen front spring and/or anti-roll bar. Soften the rear springs and/or anti-roll bar.

Exit Understeer - Increase rebound of front shocks. Decrease bump of rear shocks. Stiffen rear springs/anti-roll bar. Soften front springs/anti-roll bar.

Exit Oversteer - Decrease rebound of front shocks. Increase bump of rear shocks. Soften rear springs/anti-roll bar. Stiffen front springs/anti-roll bar.

Car is slow to respond to driver's input - Stiffen the car by (in this order) springs then anti-rollbars then shocks. Increase tyre pressure check heat spread.

Car hops over the bump - reverse of the above.

-----------------------------------------------

Q1/. mr felstead in what circumstances would you dispense with the ARB at the rear of a car and what would be the effect on a simple RWD motor?

Q2/.mr felstead, if you were to be asked to give your preference which of these IFS/IRS systems would you prefer for a FAST ROAD car and which for a RACE CAR...

The car is FE RWD and weighs 1 tonne and has 400hp & 400ft/lbs NA

A/. Notional axis 4 link system.
B/. Twinned Wishbones.
C/. Notional axis twin link top and single lower wishbone.

Answers please.

I tell you what, why don't you actually answer properly, the questions posed to YOU first before answering a question with a question.

Your ignorance of those questions is astounding, but please, feel free to enlight us, and Diablo in paticular on the intracacies of friction. Perhaps you can enlist the help of your fictional frictional friends at the Instititute of Tyre Technology.

Your quite right I was never at any of your non existant lectures in a yet to be disclosed estabilishment. I attended wholely more real universities.

When was Tune to win written? In the 70s? I think you will find a more up to date handling cheat sheet available by Carroll elsewhere. Although your writing style is very like his, especially the chitty chatty embelishments, except yours merely detract from the subject.

And to think I actually had some respect for you! That's the saddest thing of all, you totally lost the plot, even if you didn't know all that you made out, you certainly know something, maybe you do know it all, but you sure can't convey it.

Alas, despite your cleverness, your wisdom fails you.

Paul

So let me see.

There's the mystery of the non existant Institute...

No, you see now that I have some 'doubts' about the advice given, I need to check the veracity of the 'big hitters' here...

Q3/. What effect can be traced directly to wheel offsets... for example on an IFS car what would be the apparent change to the handling and roadholding if the OS of an 8" rim was changed from 50mm to 32mm... that shouldn't prove too hard.

Pavlo is your post on topic?

Mycroft,

It's quite plain you can't answer the questions asked of you, if you could you would have already done so.

I have to say, the JFs first assumption about you being, in fact, the Iraqii minister for comedy has to be not only the hsot humourous thing but the the truest statement I've seen all day.

The odd thing is I have this image of someone desperately searching google and reading though books and magasines to ask more questions. Like someone (correctly) said, you can give but you can't take.

And to partially answer question 3, a loss of front lateral grip for starters, as you just reduced the front track by 36mm. As for the IFS, you're nearly on track with your question but I'm afraid your still too much talk.

Pavlo, you have seen my stuff on the GTR and possibly elsewhere and both you and I know that this is my work... your leaping to the defense of the indefensible does you credit... but you will also know that I never give up and that just posting 'antagonism' will only serve to harden my resolve... Diablo is merely a distraction as are you... I believe you know what I am like and that I will never be 'fobbed off'.

I have some questions for mr felstead.

Nice?

Perhaps nice, but that wasn't what was asked. You were asked some questions long ago which you have skirted round too many times. Sorry your trail of BS ends in this thread, put up or shut up. This isn't about how much we know, it's about how much you don't know. Reading AE every now and again doesn't make you the uber expert you would like us all to think you are.

You are a fraud, and that's the way people will perceive you until you prove otherwise. I couldn't give a flying gooseberry if you know a whole heap of stuff and that's how you make your living. What it comes down to is your constant lying and fabrication, plagiarism, of and about information and scenarios which you have a tiny bit part contribution or link to.

If and when you decide to come clean and actually state some facts about just about anything, I will be the first person to apologise and say that I way wrong and you actually are a smart guy. I will never however lower myself to saying that you are in anyway a contributor to any automotive communities except the "make mycroft look overly intelligent" society, but you can leave your membership with the rest of your ficticious organisations.

If you really believe that we are all a bunch of to55ers that have got completely the wrong end of the stick then prove the rest of the good folk out there your a decent knowledgable chap. Prove it with something of substance, something more than claims even you yourself cannot back with any evidence.

If it's your job as you say, and as I do actually still believe it is, how do your employers/clients put up with your wholly unprofessional attitude that gives all engineers a bad name?

In my experience the true test of an expert is their ability to explain their techincal knowledge in a way which is easily understandable to non-experts.

I find it's not only a good gauge of true ability, but also a pretty good guide to someone's personality.

Regardless of who's 'right' or 'wrong', it's rather arrogant to expect JF to answer your questions MyCroft, when you are ingnoring others, don't you think?

Seems the same both ways to me, Mr. Felthead has refused to answer Mycrofts questions in a similar way. Perhaps you should doubt him as well?

“This isn't about how much we know.”

It is I assure you.

“Reading AE every now and again doesn't make you the uber expert you would like us all to think you are.”

I don’t know who Reading AE are?

”You are a fraud, and that's the way people will perceive you until you prove otherwise.”

If I’m a fraud, then I couldn’t stump your experts… now could I?

“I couldn't give a flying gooseberry if you know a whole heap of stuff and that's how you make your living.”

Ah, so I was a fraud, and now you are not sure… that is funny.

“If and when you decide to come clean and actually state some facts about just about anything, I will be the first person to apologise and say that I way wrong and you actually are a smart guy.”

Now you are really having a re-think.

“If it's your job as you say, and as I do actually still believe it is, how do your employers/clients put up with your wholly unprofessional attitude that gives all engineers a bad name”

Finally the about-turn is complete… all you have to do now is extract your head from out your ahse and you can come up smelling of roses… I am thinking of turning my attention toward you, but you posted some valid stuff on the GTR and your volte-face in this post is a joy to behold.

follow on from deleted thread- I would say that Mr Felthead's credentials are as much in doubt here as anyones. He needs to put up and shut up and start answering a few questions.
