Question

Recently fitted an induction kit to my 93 WRX and thought that the hoses and mounting bracket seem a little short. This means that to get the bracket mounted on the inner wing you have to pull the hoses away from the engine. No problem thinks me, minor hitch.
Six weeks later, I just checked the oil and had a look around the engine bay (as you do) found that the silicone part of the filter that attaches to the MAF sensor has split in two places about 30-40 mm long!
Anyway taken off the filter, glued it back together and fitted a new longer bracket. Anyone else found this problem?

You shouldn't anchor the filter to the car body, the engine moves around alot in practice and puts a strain on the filter and intake pipe, as you can see the forces can be quite high.

I found this a little strange when I fitted the kit Bob. The instructions clearly show it bolted to the inner wing. Think i'll have to make a bracket that attaches to the engine somewhere.

If its a 57i kit then it should be bolted to the engine, certainly the MY97-00 ones are fastened to the coolant header tank.

It is now Bob! Made a bracket to fit to just that place. My car is an early one BTW.
Cheers

Cool

When i fitted a K and N induction kit on my 93 wrx i bolted it to the inner wing as shown.

I see what Bob means though as the engine does move a bit when you blip the throttle!!

However, dont think i would like to leave it unsecured - i had major problems getting the pipes to together in the first place. Really tight fit!! The bracket is kinda giving me piece of mind.

sparkster, the filter isn't free. The bracket gives it good support but allows the whole intake package to move with the engine.
