I am in the process of fitting a Walbro fuel pump as per Nick's Scoobymods instructions.

It says a little bit of fuel when you take the pipes off I had a hose effect in my car

The old fuel pump is alot larger and has different connectors to the new one so I will have to cut and join the wires. What is the best way as the pump is submurrsed.?

The filter is also smaller than the ones I have with the new one.

Is everything ok??
Cheers

I just joined the wires using normal wire connectors. There are bare wires there anyway (shocked me a little too ) so it shouldn't make a difference.

I got two filters with mine. One square & one long. Both have the same surface area but I don't know if one is better than the other. I used the square one

Use the original filter.
Disconnect the new pump's loose wires, and remove/lever out the spade connectors carefully, do the same to the old connector block. Insert the old spade connectors into the new block, click it back into the new pump and hey presto!

Edited to say now that the picture has downloaded your new pump looks a little different to my upgraded one ie fatter, and ,from what I can see, you have screw on connectors, whereas my pump had a clicky black plastic block as per the original, just a slightly different shape. So the above is probably just meaningless drivel Sorry, best of luck

Thanks Guy's

Have sorted it now and used the square filter too, i'm sure it looked bigger than the longer one.

Car started ok but did stand back just in case..

Yeah sure,

The instructions I followed were these:

These are pretty informative.

Thumbs up

It's a piece of cake. Best done on a nearly empty tank.

1. Disconnect the battery!!!

2. You'll need to take out the rear seat in the car. Should only take a couple of minutes to do as it's just 5 bolts.

3. Remove the cover plate over the fuel tank. It's an oval shaped plate on the drivers side just behind the rear seat.

4. If I remember correctly there's three hoses that connect to the top of the tank. These will all need disconnecting. Be "VERY" careful with these as if you fray one then the whole fuel tank will have to come out & new hoses put in!! Not a funny job
Yes there will be fuel squirting out due to pressure in the pipes but this is normal. Have some cloths handy

5. Undo all the bolts holding the cover plate down. This is what the old fuel pump is connected to so it will need a bit of twisting to the right angle so that it comes out okay. Don't be too concerned about having a big hole into a tank of fuel. Just don't light a match You will need to hold the old pump out of the fuel for a bit to allow excess fuel to run out of the old filter. If it's done a lot of miles it'll look like an old tea bag & certainly wont want to be used again!!!

6. You can take the whole thing out now & work on it at a workbench or something. You will need to cut the red & black wire & remove the old pump.

7. Insert the new pump as a direct replacement (not forgetting the new filter) & connect the red & black wires. The new pump is a lot smaller than the standard one but don't let this concern you.

8. Reverse steps 1-5 until your car is back together again. Turn the ignition & wait for the fuel pump to fire up. You'll notice that it's considerably louder than the standard one on startup. I think it's quite cool .

All in all it should take about 30-45 minutes if you've never done it before & you don't run into any problems removing the fuel lines

Hope this helps & good luck.

Re: bare wires in the petrol tank - IIRC petrol is not combustible in its liquid form, only in a gaseous state. If there are sparks in the bare wire connections, they should be below the surface in the tank at all times, or you are driving a bomb!

I would still ensure that you make the best, most stable connection possible though!
