The turbo is making very loud whistles and not boosting much. I have not got a boost gauge yet, but it can't be more than 0.5 bar.

I had the heat shield off this morning to check to see if the wastegate is cloing correctly, and everything seemed to be in line (well, 90 degrees). There is some white residue around the turbo housing, and it looks like the seal between it and the down pipe may have been compomised (it looks bubbley..) Also, the intercooler has oil in it, could a seal have gone somewhere.

To top it all off, I;ve just got a code 22 from the ECU, so need to replace the kncok sensor as well.

Any thought will be much appreciated.

If you've got that error code i'd say the ecu would be running in limp home mode.... and so only boosts to 0.6 bar. I can't be sure about that tho.... not sure about the loud whistling either .

Yeah, I think I'm in limp home mode, and have a leak somewhere, thus not even getting proper limp home boost I reset the ECU this morning, and the code 22 came back after restarting the car a second time.

 

More possible problems: up pipe gaskets, cracked flexible joint on up pipe, compressor wheel
