My motor is restricted to 112mph. After a search on here, I read there`s a gizmo you fit to de-restrict it. Roughly how much is it??
Also, my speedo is in mph, but the clock is in kilometers. I want it changed to miles. Went into Revolution in Gateshead today, and the guy reckons I`ll need a new clock, but can`t give me a price until Monday. Any rough ideas on cost??
Or has anyone had both these things done together, if so how much inc. labour??
Thanks,
Walwal.

Depends what type of speedo you have, cable or electronic. If its a cable you can get a little reduction box which fits inline on the cable and if its electronic you use a little chip that wires in behind the dash.
Both of these will de limit the top speed and give you a speed reading in MPH and odometer reading in miles from the point that they were fitted. You can get them from www.importedvehicles.co.uk

Hmmm don`t know whether its electronic or cable. Does it go by the year of the car?? If so, this is an L reg. What is the difference between the 2, how do I tell is what I mean?? What`s the best way of getting to where I need to look?? Do I go in from under the dash??
Any ideas??
Sorry about all the questions, but I`m a Scoobie virgin.
Thanks.

Does the speedo need to be calibrated after doing it cos at the minute, the speedo only goes to 120, and to get to that the needle would be as far round as it could go??

Looks like sombody has changed the speedo face over to an MPH one. If you are going down the cable conversion route you dont need to do that. The reduction box will come with a little MPH sticker which goes over the KPH on the original face, therefore giving you a speedo that goes upto 180MPH on a WRX(I Think). If you want to use the reduction box and de restrict it, you need to get hold of an original KPH face. Try the firm mentioned in my first post, they may have a few lying around but most people would bin them. You will not need to have it recalibrated or anything, thats what the reduction box does for you.

My current speedo doesn`t have any kph on it at all, only mph up to 120. I think I`ll need a new dial. I`ll try to post a pic tomorrow.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Walwal,
My last car was a Liberty built using a Jap front cut... This had a speedo up to 180 kms... As we run in k's over here I did not have to change the dials and the go-faster-chip removed the speed limit...
In answer to your question the needle goes off the bottom of the gauge to the equivalent of may be another 15 kms, it then gets stopped by the bottom of the dial, and the car just accelerates on... When you ease off the needle just stays where it is until 195ish where it comes back down.
If i'm driving at 180+ I usually have my eyes on the road, *cough* track... and not the speedo!
Will your odometer reading in k's rather than miles cause you any major problems?? I would spend the £60 it will cost for the conversion on a www.scoobyecu.co.uk - that will remove the speed limit and have the pleasant side effect of increasing your grin factor by 10...
Alex.

Well I`ve always been a miles man myself, and don`t take to change easily. It just seems a bit wierd. I like to know how many miles to the gallon I`m getting, as opposed to km/litre or gallon. It`s just something I`m used to I suppose.
Obviously I`m not planning on going over 120 mph, but I was just worried that my speedo might not give the correct reading even at 30 or 70 mph. Plus, I was thinking about changing the dials in my car anyway.
Thanks,
Walwal

I know what you mean... I still do the conversion to mpg for economy... and in which case for the sake of £60 do it!
But yes it should read accurately.. Essentially they have just overpainted the equivelent kms with miles...
Edited to add: I have got pic of a 180km speedo, but can't work out how to post it!
