MY 2000 Turbo in for its 22500 service next week. I've put slick 50 in all my previous cars including a sunny GTIR.

Was wondering if anyone had any reasons why i shouldn't? My local tuning geezer swears by it from his rallying days. Thanks in advance for any help,

Cal

I didn't think it was up to taking the heat produced within a turbo engine?

Also if it is so good why do manufacturers not put it in themselves? they could save lots of money on warrentee claims if it did all it says it does..

Better to just use a good quality oil like Mobil 1 Motorsport 15W50 or Motul 15W50 or Castrol RS in my humble opinion..

Yep.
It's bad for virtually all modern engines (the cleanances doin't need it for starters). Just puts crud in the system that sits at the bottom of the sump & clogs the oil filter, making the bypass open & drop the oil filter out of the loop. Obviously 'not a good thing'.
If you want to look after the engine, change the oil frequently (a good quality one - the Mobil 15/50s pretty good, Motul 300v better yet). How often depends on how you use the car - mine's every 2,500 miles (with ordinary road use) but others change more frequently, some less...
Just don't bung crud in!

Wink

Didn't know the Scooby had a filter bypass.. interesting..

Mate blew his old Granada Scorpio up because he didn't change the oil for like 20k miles or something stupid and it clogged the oil filter and blew it off.. unrelated to Slick 50.

I change my oil every 7500miles but then I do mainly motorway and I spend enough time under the car as it is.. used the Mobil 1 kast two changes.... might try Motul next time for comparison.
